Biff is a good idea that I just didn't execute as well as I should have. The human puppet mouths fell apart shortly after shooting began so all the mouth movements were done with Photoshop filmstrips. The Princess didn't turn out to be very pretty and the horse was way too small. I had planned for a much longer fight scene, but by the time I got round to shooting it I had lost enthusiasm so I cut it short.

On the plus side, I really like the trees and background I painted. The marbled fabric costumes look really good too. And I think the story is fun with a great punchline. The only time I screened it for a large audience was at the ASIFA-SF open screening and the laughter drown out the throwaway line at the end.

That's me doing Biff's and the dragon's voices and my daughter Erica does the princess. My other daughter Karen improvised the flute score. I keep it all in the family for the most part since the talent is close by and works cheap.

I shot Biff, like all my shorts, sequentially from start to finish. For stop motion it works quite well since you can call "cut" and the actors just freeze on their marks for the next setup.

I didn't have a title for Biff until I had finished shooting and completed post. I tried countless ideas out but just couldn't come up with something until inspiration hit me from some rerun somewhere.
